Newaygo County was born during the lumbering era.
Today, Newaygo County relies on tourism, agriculture and manufacturing (in that order) for it’s economic support. The Muskegon River and it’s tributaries are a main attraction for summer cottage residents and fishermen. Steelhead fishing in the spring and salmon in the fall are some of the best in Michigan. Over half the county is contained in the Manistee National Forest which attracts hunters, campers and RV’ing. |
